Sri Shankar Hombal

Shri Shankar Hombal hails from the Kalakshetra school of performing arts in Chennai, India, founded in 1936 by the Theosophist Dr. Rukmini Devi Arundale. The Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam is known for its strong technical foundation and for revolutionizing the art form for the masses, outside of the Devadasi heriditary practice. Mesma trained under Sri Hombal for five years.

Shri Shankar Hombal is the director of Kalapadma Dance Academy, Bhopal. He is the Nrityacharya of Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and also Hindustani classical music style. He holds Hindi Visharad and M.A. (Sanskrit) degrees.

He choreographed and directed a number of dance-dramas, many of them won kudos. His Chitranagada, Temptation of Buddha, Panchavati, Ganga Avataran, Vikramorvashyam, Kumarasambhavam, Kaliya Mardan are some of his popular creations. He was awarded the Golden Trophy for best choreography at Kalidas Samaroh in Ujjain M.P. For his selfless service in the field of art in Madhya Pradesh, the Government of Madhya Pradesh honored him with Shikhar Samman.
